Data migration is the transfer of a hotel's operational data, such as future reservations, guest profiles, rates and invoices, from one system to another during a software change, ideally without losing history or breaking upcoming stays.
Good migrations start with an audit of what exists, what is worth keeping and what format the new system expects. Duplicated guest profiles, inconsistent rate codes and incomplete addresses are typical problems that surface during the mapping stage.
Hotels often accept that deep history stays behind in an archive while future bookings and core guest data move over cleanly. Verifying a sample of migrated reservations against the source, before go-live, catches most mapping errors while they are still cheap to fix.
