Metasearch engines, such as Google Hotels, Trivago and Kayak, compare prices for the same hotel across OTAs and the hotel's own website. Hotels can list their direct price and pay per click or per booking.
Unlike an OTA, metasearch does not take the booking itself. It sends the guest to whichever channel they choose. For hotels this is an opportunity to appear next to the OTAs with a direct price and capture the booking without standard OTA commission.
Success depends on price competitiveness and connection quality. If the hotel's feed shows stale or higher prices than the OTAs, the campaign pays for clicks that convert elsewhere. Parity discipline and accurate real-time rates are prerequisites, not optional extras.
