Length of Stay (LOS)

Revenue & Pricing

Length of stay (LOS) is the number of nights a guest books in a single reservation. Hotels analyze and manage LOS because longer stays reduce turnover costs and fill shoulder nights around peak dates.

In practice

Average LOS varies by market and segment. City business hotels often see short stays while resorts see longer ones. Cleaning, check-in effort and acquisition cost are paid once per stay, so a longer stay is usually more profitable at the same nightly rate.

LOS is also a pricing lever. Stay restrictions and packages steer guests toward stay patterns that fit demand, for example requiring more nights over a sold-out event to avoid orphaned single-night gaps that are hard to sell.
