A rate plan is a defined combination of price, conditions and inclusions under which a room is sold, such as a flexible rate, a non-refundable rate or a breakfast-included package. Hotels typically run several plans in parallel.
Each plan targets a different guest trade-off. Non-refundable plans exchange flexibility for a lower price and secure cash early. Flexible plans price the option to cancel. Packages bundle services to raise total spend and differentiate from OTA listings.
Rate plan sprawl is a common disease. Dozens of overlapping plans confuse guests, staff and reporting alike. A periodic cleanup, keeping a small set of plans with clear purposes and measurable production, usually improves both conversion and analysis.
