Keyless entry lets guests open their room with a smartphone instead of a card, using a digital key delivered through an app or link once check-in is complete, enabling arrival flows that skip the front desk.
The technology pairs door locks supporting mobile credentials with software that issues time-limited keys tied to the reservation. Keys deactivate automatically at check-out, and lost-phone scenarios are handled by reissuing credentials rather than recoding locks.
Hardware is the gating factor, retrofitting locks across a property is a real investment, so keyless usually arrives with lock renewal cycles or new builds. A fallback path must always exist, dead batteries and app problems cannot leave a guest locked out at midnight.
