CRS (Central Reservation System)

Tech Stack

A Central Reservation System (CRS) is a platform that centralizes a hotel's or chain's reservations, rates and inventory across all distribution channels, often sitting between the PMS and external channels like the GDS, OTAs and call centers.

In practice

Historically a chain-level tool, the CRS lets a brand manage rates and availability for many properties from one place and feed them to the GDS, voice reservations and brand websites. In many modern stacks its role overlaps with the channel manager and the PMS.

Independent hotels rarely need a standalone CRS today. Chains and soft brands still rely on it for consistency across properties and for corporate and group business that flows through the GDS. Confusing CRS, PMS and channel manager roles is a frequent source of duplicated cost.
