Room status is the operational state of each hotel room, typically vacant or occupied combined with clean, dirty or inspected. Accurate status is what lets the front desk assign rooms confidently at check-in.
The classic cycle runs from occupied dirty at check-out, to vacant dirty, to vacant clean after housekeeping, to vacant inspected where a supervisor confirms sell-ready condition. The PMS tracks these states and modern setups update them from mobile devices in real time.
Status errors are expensive in guest experience, walking a guest into an unclean room is among the worst first impressions a hotel can produce. Discrepancy reports comparing housekeeping status with front desk records catch mismatches before guests do.
