Guest segmentation is dividing a hotel's guest database into groups with shared characteristics, such as stay purpose, booking channel, spend level or visit frequency, so marketing messages and offers match each group instead of blasting everyone equally.
Useful segments are actionable. Past direct bookers get loyalty perks, OTA guests get incentives to book direct next time, spa spenders get wellness offers. Behavioral data from the PMS and CRM beats demographic guesswork for predicting what a guest will respond to.
Over-segmentation is the common failure, dozens of micro-groups nobody has time to serve with distinct content. Starting with a handful of segments tied to clear campaigns, then refining based on measured response, produces better results than an elaborate unused taxonomy.
