Ancillary Revenue

Guest Experience

Ancillary revenue is all guest spend beyond the room rate, including food and beverage, spa, parking, transfers, early check-in and late checkout fees. It is the growth frontier for hotels whose room pricing is already optimized.

In practice

Airlines showed how much value sits outside the core product. Hotels increasingly package and merchandise services the same way, with pre-arrival offers, in-stay ordering through apps and paid flexibility options such as guaranteed early arrival.

Measuring ancillary spend per occupied room, and comparing it across segments and seasons, shows where the upside is. The ceiling is guest experience, monetizing what used to be free requires care, while creating genuinely optional paid conveniences rarely generates resentment.
