No-show

Operations

A no-show is a guest with a confirmed reservation who never arrives and never cancels. Hotels typically charge a penalty according to the rate's cancellation policy, often the first night, and release the room.

In practice

No-show handling is defined by the rate plan's conditions and executed during the night audit, charging the guaranteed card and updating the reservation. Failed charges, expired cards or OTA virtual cards not yet active, are a common leak worth monitoring.

Forecasting expected no-shows by segment and day pattern feeds overbooking decisions, since a predictable share of booked rooms will not materialize. Clear communication of the policy at booking reduces both genuine surprises and the disputes that follow penalty charges.
