An in-room tablet is a dedicated device placed in the guest room that concentrates hotel services, room controls, dining orders, service requests and information in one screen, replacing printed directories and some phone calls.
Tablets shine where they control something physical, lights, temperature, curtains, or where ordering friction is high. They also merchandise services with images at the moment of desire, which printed cards and phone menus never did well.
The trade-offs are hardware cost, charging and cleaning logistics, and content maintenance across a room fleet. Many hotels now weigh tablets against QR-based web apps on the guest's own phone, which deliver most of the software value without owning devices.
